The Buzz 99.3 WZZB and 92.7 Nash Icon WXKU Raise over $2750 for Blessings in a Backpack

The Buzz 99.3 WZZB along with 92.7 Nash Icon hosted the 99 Meals a Month & 92 Meals a Month campaign , sponsored by The Brooklyn Pizza Company during the months of June, July, and August benefiting Blessings in a Backpack of Jackson County. Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children in Jackson County and across America who might otherwise go hungry.

While partnering with Blessing in a Backpack, 99.3 The Buzz & 92.7 Nash Icon was able to take the first full week of June, July, and August to fill the airwaves with information about the organization and what each donation meant to the kids. For every $2.76 donated, 2 meals were provided to children in Jackson County. Nash Icon was able to raise $2,978 in three months using radio, which equaled 1,079 meals.

Kelly Trask, owner of 99.3 THE BUZZ WZZB  & 92.7 Nash Icon WXKU said, “We look to find ways our stations can be used as good stewards of our God given resources for the communities we serve. Blessings in a Backpack stood out to me as an organization we could help raise money and awareness for through the airwaves. So excited for the outpouring support from the community with just three week of on-air push over the months of Jun, July and August. Our listeners truly have a heart of gold and are thankful to connect them with such a great organization that helps kiddos make sure they have food on the weekends.”

Blessings in a Backpack, Pam Kindel says, “We are grateful for the partnership between 92.7 Nash Icon WXKU, 99.3 The Buzz WZZB and The Brooklyn Pizza Company. Partnerships have been the core of Blessings in a Backpack since the beginning. Through partnerships with local businesses, organizations and individuals, we are now able to reach 359 children per week with our program. We are thankful for our local partners for helping us to make a greater impact within the community.”

The goal of “99 Meals a Month on 99.3” & “92 Meals a Month on 92.7” was to provide children with meals on the weekends. The community was a great help in achieving these goals and each donation is greatly appreciated. Seeing the community come together to change lives is a great blessing.
